Learning

During my school days, my Sanskrit teacher taught me this sloka.

Sloka
आचार्यात् पादमादत्ते पादं शिष्यः स्वमेधया|
पादं सब्रह्मचारिभ्यः पादं कालक्रमेण च||

Transliteration
AchAryAt pAdamAdatte, pAdam shiShyaH swamedhayA |
sa-brahmachAribhyaH pAdam, pAdam kAlakrameNa cha ||

Translation
one fourth from the teacher, one fourth from own intelligence,
one fourth from classmates, and one fourth only with time.

It means,
A quarter portion of all learning is obtained from the teacher, a quarter through his(the student's) own intellect. A quarter is obtained from his fellow students, and another quarter of the knowledge gets accumulated with the passage of time.
